Providence College junior David McCarthy (Waterford, Ireland) earned All-American status, leading a successful Friar contingent at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships at the Gilliam Indoor Track Stadium.

Friar sophomore Shelby Greany (Suffern, N.Y.), junior Hannah Davidson (Saratoga, Springs, N.Y.) and junior Julian Matthews (Nelson, New Zealand) earned Second Team All-American status with their performances.

McCarthy placed eighth among the nation's best in the 3000-meters, crossing the line in 8:06.01, just 2.3 seconds behind the event champion, Elliott Heath of Stanford (8:03.71).

It is the second time McCarthy has been an All American during the indoor season. He placed fourth in the mile two seasons ago.

The Friars were also represented well in the women's 3000-meters, as sophomore Greany grabbed ninth with a time of 9:22.51, just over eight seconds behind the victor, Oregon's Jordan Hasay (9:13.71). Teammate Davidson, also running in her first NCAA Indoor Championships, placed 14th with a clocking of 9:27.53.

Matthews had the 13th best posting in the mile preliminaries. His time of 4:01.55 was just .16 of a second shy earning a spot in the finals.

Both the men's and women's teams have now concluded the indoor season. The Friars are off until the start of the outdoor campaign, the Bryant Quad Meet on March 29 in Smithfield, R.I.
