NEW HAVEN, CONN. - Members of the Providence College men's and women's tracks teams took part in Yale's Giegengack Invitational over the weekend, turning in several quality performances.
On the men's side, freshman Francis Hernandez (Windham, N.H) shattered the BIG EAST qualifying standard in the mile by over seven seconds by crossing in 4:12.30.
Also smashing the conference qualifier was freshman Alex Wallace (Waipukarau, New Zealand), slicing the 1000-meter standard by three seconds with a 2:27.00. Providence received another strong performance in the 3000-meters from junior Corey Brunelle (Woonsocket, R.I.), who took sixth place overall with an 8:29.47 run.
On the women's side, sophomore triple-jumper Christina Lavigne (Shelton, Conn) fell just shy of the personal best she set last week by leaping 11.10-meters. She earned sixth overall. Junior Sara Graney (Palisades, N.Y.) grabbed 12th in the 3000-meters with a time of 10:28.32.
Both Friar teams will compete again on February 11 and 12 at the Boston University St. Valentine's Classic.
