Men's Soccer To Host Seton Hall On Saturday

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College men's soccer team will host Seton Hall in a BIG EAST Conference match on Saturday, October 15 at 1:00 p.m. at Glay Field.
Providence (6-5-1, 1-2-1 BIG EAST) is coming off 2-1 loss at No. 1 Connecticut on Wednesday, October 12 in Storrs. Trailing, 2-0, with under18 minutes remaining, freshman Jimmy Petruccelli (Brentwood, N.H.) scored his first collegiate goal to cut the lead to 2-1. The Friars nearly scored the equalizer with 25 seconds left. Petruccelli played a cross from the right flank and over UConn goalkeeper Andre Blake who had come off his line. PC junior Marc Cintron (Piscataway, N.J.), who was at the back post, leaped and headed the ball towards the open net, but UConn's Andrew Jean-Baptiste made a sprawling save with his right foot off the goal line and secure the win for the Huskies. PC's goal ended UConn's school record of nine consecutive games without conceding a goal, a span of 961:32.
Freshman Marcos Ugarte (Providence, R.I.) leads the team in scoring with seven points on three goals and one assist, while red-shirt sophomore Wilder Arboleda (Pawtucket, R.I.) is second with six points on three goals (all match winners). Sophomore Greg Davis (Jamaica, N.Y.) and Petruccelli are tied for third with five points each. Davis has two goals and one assist, while Petruccelli has one goal and three assists. In goal, senior Jhojan Obando (Kissimmee, Fla.) has played in all 12 matches and has a 1.06 goals against average and five shutouts.
Seton Hall (4-7-2, 0-4-0 BIG EAST) comes into the weekend seeking its first BIG EAST win. Most recently, the Pirates were deafeated by No. 20 Georgetown, 3-1, on October 12. SHU took a 1-0 lead in the ninth minute on a goal by Jason Wellington, but the Hoyas scored the next three goals to earn the win.
Max Garcia leads the team in scoring with four goals and eight points, while Giovanni Zammiello is second with five points on two goals and one assist. In goal, the Pirates have used four different goalkeepers because of injuries. Mario DeClerico has played in six matches and has two shutouts. He recorded four saves against Georgetown.
The Friars are 9-11-6 all-time against the Pirates, including last season's 2-1 victory in South Orange, N.J. The last time the two teams faced each other in Providence (2009), the match ended in a 1-1 double overtime draw.
