Julian Matthews Advances To NCAA 1,500 Meter Finals

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Sophomore Julian Matthews (Nelson, New Zealand) ran a time of 3:51.44 in the second heat of the NCAA 1,500 meter quarterfinals to place second. Sophomore Dominic Channon (Nelson, New Zealand) fell just short of a bid to the NCAA Finals as he placed eighth in the second heat with a time of 3:53.56.
Matthews will travel to Eugene, Ore. for the NCAA Finals from June 9-12. Joining him will be graduate student Katie DiCamillo (Garden City, N.Y.) and freshman Shelby Greany (Suffern, N.Y.). DiCamillo will compete in the 10,000 meters while Greany will race in the 3,000 meter steeplechase.
In other qualifying action on Saturday, freshman Sam Roecker (Charlton, N.Y.) and junior Emma Perron (West Hartford, Conn.) both fell short of their qualifying attempts in the 5,000 meters. Roecker ran a time of 16:53.00 to place 16th in her heat and 25th overall while Perron placed 19th in her heat and 35th overall with a time of 17:20.14.
