CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The Providence College Friars were defeated by Boston College, 88-86, on Wednesday, December 8 at Chestnut Hill, Mass. For the Friars it was their first road game of the season.

The Friars trailed at the half, 42-31, after the Eagles shot the ball well in the first half, making 7-14 three-point attempts. Josh Southern led the Eagles with 10 points and seven rebounds. Providence was paced by senior Marshon Brooks, who scored seven points.

In the second half, the Eagles lead grew as large as 15 points with 12:49 remaining in the game, but the Friars were able to climb back and get within three points after a Brooks' field goal at 4:18. BC turned the ball over on its next possession and the Friars had a chance to tie the game but Providence could not control the ball and committed a crucial turnover. BC's Reggie Jackson hit an open three to extend the lead to six. BC increased its lead to nine points (83-74) with 2:40 left, before the Friars turned up the pressure. Sophomore Duke Mondy hit a three with four seconds remaining and got the Friars within one point (87-86). After fouling Joe Trapani, he missed the second of two free throws and PC's Vincent Council got the rebound with 2 seconds left. Council threw up a shot from mid court that hit the rim and deflected out of the basket and BC hung on for an 88-86 win.

Brooks finished with a game-high 28 points and 10 rebounds. Council added 13 points, nine assists and six rebounds in the loss.

Providence College will return to action at home on Saturday, December 11 against Alabama at 2 p.m. on ESPNU at the Dunkin' Donuts Center.
