The Providence College men's team (1-5, 0-1 BIG EAST) earned a first-place finish at the Harold Anderson Invitational held on Friday and Saturday on the University of Rhode Island's campus in Kingston, R.I. The women's squad (0-7, 0-1 BIG EAST) had a solid performance as well, as they took home second place.
On the men's side, the Friars defeated Bryant, Fairfield, Maine, Holy Cross and URI. This is the first win for the men at the annual event in more than four years. The women dropped Bryant, Fairfield, Maine, and Holy Cross. URI won the event on the women's side.
Combined, the men's and women's teams totaled 50 "A" and 31 "B" BIG EAST qualifying standards in the meet. The Friars now boast 29 individuals who have successfully qualified for the BIG EAST Swimming & Diving Championships to be held in Louisville in February.
Both the men and women have now concluded their fall schedules. The team will have a hiatus until Tuesday, January 4, when they travel to St. Thomas, United States Virgin Islands for their annual winter training trip. The teams will be back in the pool on Saturday, January 15 when they travel to Orono, Maine to face the Maine Black Bears.
