FRIARS TO HOST HOLY CROSS... Providence will look to start a new unbeaten streak when it travels to Worcester, Mass. to take on Holy Cross on Saturday, November 27 at 3:00 p.m.
FRIARS UNBEATEN STREAK COMES TO AN END... Providence's recent seven-game unbeaten streak (4-0-3) was its longest since the 2002-03 season when the Friars recorded a 5-0-2 mark in February. During the seven-game unbeaten streak, PC outscored opponents, 21-14. Senior Kyle MacKinnon (Walnut, Calif.) led the way in the seven games with five goals and four assists for nine points. In goal, junior Alex Beaudry (Cumberland, Ontario) had a 2.08 goals against average and a .933 save percentage in six of the seven games.
SERIES HISTORY VERSUS HOLY CROSS... The Friars are 8-1 all-time against Holy Cross, including two consecutive wins. Last season, the Friars posted a 2-1 win in the season opener on October 10 at Schneider Arena. Daniel New (White Plains, N.Y.) scored the eventual game winner late in the second period and had one assist, while Alex Beaudry made 33 saves to lead the Friars.
SCOUTING HOLY CROSS... Holy Cross had its four-game unbeaten streak snapped with a 5-2 setback against Bentley on November 20. Jay Silvia and Andrew Cox each scored for the Crusaders who finished with a 32-24 advantage in shots. The night before, Holy Cross posted a 7-2 win at Sacred Heart as Mark Znutas recorded two goals and one assist. The Crusaders outshot the Pioneers, 53-31, and converted two of their four power-play chances. Everett Sheen leads the team in scoring with 13 points (5 g, 8 a), while Rob Linsmayer (4 g, 7 a) and Adam Schmidt (3 g, 8 a) are tied for second with 11 points each. In goal, Thomas Tysowsky has played in nine games and has a 3.32 goals against average and a .888 save percentage.
FRIAR QUICK NOTES... • Three of PC's next five games will be non-conference contests. • Senior defenseman Eric Baier (North Kingstown, R.I.) has scored a goal in two of the last three games. • Eleven out of the 12 Providence goal scorers this season have two goals or more. • Prior to Saturday's game, Kyle MacKinnon had a three-game point streak in which he recorded three goals and three assists. • The Friars, who played in five overtime games during the 2009-10 season, already have played in four overtime contests this season.
PROVIDENCE NON-CONFERENCE SCHEDULE... Providence has posted 2-2 non-conference record this season. PC played two games at WCHA power Minnesota Duluth (10/15 and 10/16) and two contests at Alabama-Huntsville (11/12 and 1/13). In addition, Providence also will face Atlantic Hockey foe Holy Cross (11/27) and ECAC opponents Brown (12/7) and Quinnipiac (12/11). PC posted a 5-2 record in non-conference games last season, including a 3-1 mark against teams from the CCHA. PC also defeated Brown and Holy Cross. The 5-2 mark was the best non-conference record since the 2003-04 season when PC finished with a 9-3-1 mark.
FARRER PROVIDING SCORING PUNCH... Senior assistant captain Ben Farrer (Calgary, Alberta) already has career-high in goals (2), assists (5) and points (7) through 13 games this season. Farrer, who has not played a full season because of injuries, had a previous career-high of four points, which he set in his freshman and sophomore seasons.
MacKINNON LEADING FRIARS IN SCORING... Kyle MacKinnon leads the Friars in scoring with eight goals and 12 points. He has two multiple-goal games, including a three goals against Alabama-Huntsville on November 12. MacKinnon's 12 points also rank him tied for sixth in Hockey East. Last season, MacKinnon did not score his eighth goal until the 20th game and this season he has at least one goal in five of the 11 games. In 34 games last season, MacKinnon finished tied for the team lead with 12 goals and led all Friars with 25 points.
CRAIG WYSZOMIRSKI SIGNS NLI TO ATTEND PC... Craig Wyszomirski has signed a National Letter of Intent to attend PC beginning in September 2011.Wyszomirski is a 6-foot-4, 210-pound defenseman, who plays at The Gunnery School in Washington, Conn. He will join current PC freshman forward Derek Army (North Kingstown, R.I.) as the second player to come out of The Gunnery School. In 32 games last season, Wyszomirski recorded seven goals and 17 assists for 24 points. He also is in the National Hockey League Central Scouting Preliminary rankings.
