MILWAUKEE, Wis. - The Providence College men's basketball team was defeated at Marquette, 93-63, on Sunday, January 17. The Friars, who were led by freshman Vincent Council's career-high 24 points, fell to 11-7 overall and 3-3 in league action.
Marquette (11-6, 2-3) used strong perimeter shooting to jump to a 45-29 lead after 20 minutes of play. The Golden Eagles shot 8-13 (61.5 percent) from three-point territory. Marquette was paced by the hot-shooting of Darius Johnson-Odom who had 20 points in the first half and was 4-6 from three-point territory. The Friars were forced to play the final 22 minutes of the game without leading scorer and rebounder sophomore Jamine Peterson who was ejected for a flagrant foul. Peterson registered nine points and one rebound in the game.
In the second half the Golden Eagles continued to shoot the ball well as the team shot 63.3 percent in the final 20 minutes of action. PC was led by Council who scored 16 points in the second half. He was the only Friar to score in double figures for the game.
Maurice Acker led Marquette in scoring with 23 points and was 6-6 from three-point territory.
