ROSEMONT, Ill. - The Providence College Friars improved to 3-2 in BIG EAST action (11-6 overall) when they earned a 79-62 league win over DePaul (7-9, 0-4) on Thursday, January 14 at Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Ill. The Friars were led by a team-high 17 points from junior Marshon Brooks (Stone Mountain, Ga.) and sophomore Jamine Peterson (Brooklyn, N.Y.), who recorded a double-double (16 points, 10 rebounds).

DePaul, which was playing its first game under interim head coach Tracy Webster, came out inspired in the first half. The Blue Demons played with a lot of defensive energy and held a seven-point lead (26-19) with 4:09 remaining in the first half. However, the Friars picked up their play and closed out the half on a 14-2 run to go into halftime with a 33-28 lead. Eight of the Friars' 14 points in the run were scored by Brooks who knocked in two threes and a layup to spark the visitors.

In the second half the Friars continued to put the pressure on as they put together a 14-5 run over the first five minutes to take a 14-point lead (47-33). Freshman Johnnie Lacy (Milwaukee, Wis.) made a jumper with 7:10 left in the game to give PC a 26-point lead (tied for its largest of the game). DePaul chipped away and scored several baskets to close out the game at 79-62.

"I was proud of our team," Friar Head Coach Keno Davis said following the game. "DePaul came out and played with a lot of energy. We have a young team, but we are learning how to play with a lead. It was good to get our second BIG EAST road win."

Providence, which won its previous road game at Rutgers (94-81) on January 9, won consecutive BIG EAST road games for the first time since 1996.

In addition to Brooks and Peterson, senior Sharaud Curry (Gainesville, Ga.) and freshman Bilal Dixon (Jersey City, N.J.) also scored in double figures for the Friars with 12 and 10 points, respectively.

DePaul's Mike Stovall recorded a game-high 30 points in the loss.

The Friars will return to action on Sunday, January 14 at Marquette at 4:00 p.m. EST. The game can be seen live on Cox.
