The Friars started the game strong and scored in the fifth minute when senior Nicole Benko (Valley Stream, N.Y.) drove a cross into the 18-yard box where fellow senior Greta Houlihan (Bel Air, Md.) settled and struck the ball into the right side of the net. The score would remain 1-0 for the remainder of the first half.
Quinnipiac would answer right away in the second half as Furtuna Velaj (Stamford, Conn.) took a direct kick from 22-yards out and put in the upper right corner of the net in the 47th minute to tie up the score at 1-1.
In the 55th minute the Friars would gain the lead when senior Jill Camburn (Doylestown, Pa.) gained possession of the ball on the left side of the field and drove a cross to the top of the six yard box where freshmen Alyssa Gillespie (Stratford, Conn.) headed the ball back across the goal and into the left side of the net for her first goal of her career to put the team up 2-1. In the 66th minute, the Friars would add to their lead when sophomore Taylor Bartini (Suffield, Conn.) received a service from Camburn and scored her first goal of the season giving Providence a 3-1 lead.
The final score was 3-1 with the Friars outshooting Quinnipiac, 21-7, and holding the advantage in corner kicks, 8-2.
