David McCarthy Earns USTFCCCA Indoor Track Athlete Of The Year Honors

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Providence College sophomore David McCarthy (Waterford, Ireland) earned USTFCCCA Northeast Region Indoor Track Athlete of the Year honors for his performance this season.

McCarthy ranks fourth nationally in the mile this season after running a sub four-minute mile at the Boston University Valentine Invitational on February 14. McCarthy crossed the finish line in a time of 3:57.75. His performance automatically qualified him for the NCAA Championship, and his time in the event ranks third all-time at Providence College behind Hall of Famers Andy Keith and Mark Carroll.

McCarthy also outkicked the competition at the BIG EAST Indoor Track Championship, winning the 3,000 meters in a time of 8:07.06. He also ran the anchor leg of the distance medley relay at the BIG EAST Championship, helping the Friars claim the league title with an NCAA-provisional qualifying time of 9:39.85.
