Men's Hockey To Play At Dartmouth On Friday

FRIARS TRAVEL TO DARTMOUTH... The Friars will close out their non-conference schedule when they travel to Dartmouth to face the Big Green on Friday, November 27 at the Thompson Arena in Hanover, N.H. It will mark the first meeting between the two teams in Dartmouth since 1998.

SERIES HISTORY VERSUS DARTMOUTH... In 23 meetings between Providence College and Dartmouth, the Friars lead 14-9. Last season, the Big Green defeated the Friars, 4-2, at Schneider Arena. Dartmouth jumped out to a 3-0 lead, before the Friars pulled to within, 3-2. However, the Big Green added an empty-net goal to seal the victory. Prior to 2008, the two teams had not faced each other since December 10, 1999 when the Friars posted a 2-0 win over the BIG Green at Schneider Arena. The last time the two teams played each other at the Thompson Arena was on December 11, 1998 when the Big Green edged the Friars, 6-5, in overtime. The Friars played at the Thompson Arena on December 29-30, 2004 but did not face Dartmouth at the Ledyard National Bank Tournament.

SCOUTING DARTMOUTH... Dartmouth is coming off its first victory of the season on Saturday, November 21 as it defeated St. Lawrence in Hanover, N.H. The Big Green jumped out to a 3-1 second period lead on goals by Scott Fleming, Doug Jones and Joe Gaudet and withstood a late charge by the Saints to earn the win. Jody O'Neill made 30 saves for the Big Green, who outshot the Saints, 43-35. Gaudet (three goals, two assists), Dustin Walsh (three goals, two assists) and Adam Estoclet (one goal, four assists) are tied for the team lead in scoring with five points each. O'Neill has played in six of the seven games and has a .891 save percentage. James Mello has played in two games and has .917 save percentage.

FRIAR QUICK NOTES... • The Friars will complete their five games in 11 days stretch on Friday, November 27 at Dartmouth ... Through 12 games this season, Providence College already has equalled its win total from last season (seven) ... The Friars already have defeated three ranked teams this season, including No. 3 UMass Lowell on November 24. Last season, PC posted one win over a ranked opponent ... Senior Mark Fayne (Sagamore Beach, Mass.) recorded a career-high four points (one goal, three assists in the win over UMass Lowell ... The win over No. 3 UMass Lowell was the highest ranked opponent that the Friars have defeated since posting a 4-2 win at No. 2 Boston University on January 13, 2009 ... Sophomore Matt Bergland (Faribault, Minn.), who had 10 goals in 34 games last season, already has seven goals through 12 games this season. Bergland has recorded at least one point in eight of the 12 games this season ... Four of the Friars' seven wins this season have been by one goal, while they posted three one-goal wins last season ... The Friars rank tied for 14th in the country in team defense, allowing 2.42 goals per game ... The Friars are 4-for-12 (.333) on the power-play in the last three games.

LAST TIME OUT... The Friars are coming off a 4-2 win over No. 3 UMass Lowell on Tuesday, November 24 at Schneider Arena. The River Hawks took a 1-0 lead after one period, but the Friars scored twice in the second period to gain the lead for good. Junior Kyle MacKinnon (Walnut, Calif.) scored on the power-play play, while freshman Aaron Jamnick (Hibbing, Minn.) scored on a breakaway to give the Friars a 2-1 edge. In the third period, freshman Alex Velischek (Kinnelon, N.J.) scored on the power play as the lead increased to 3-1. It marked Velischek's first career goal. Mark Fayne then added a power-play goal to seal the win. Fayne also finished with a career-high three assists to lead the Friars, while Matt Bergland recorded two assists. In goal, sophomore Alex Beaudry (Cumberland, Ontario) made 30 saves for the Friars who finished with a 41-32 shot advantage.

FRIARS AGAINST NON-CONFERENCE FOES... Providence College has posted a 5-1 record in non-conference games this season, including a 3-1 mark against teams from the CCHA. The Friars have outscored opponents, 20-11, in the six non-conference contests so far this season. PC also has defeated ECAC Hockey foe, Brown and Atlantic Hockey opponent, Holy Cross. Last season, the Friars posted a 3-4-0 record in non-league action.

FAYNE OFF TO FAST START... Mark Fayne is off to a quick start with 11 points (three goals, eight assists) through the first 12 games this season. He is one point shy of his career-high 12 points (five goals, seven assists) which he accomplished in 2006-07. He has three multiple-point games, including a career-high four points (one goal, three assists) in a 4-2 win over No. 3 UMass Lowell on November 24. In addition, he is tied for 11th in the nation, averaging 0.92 points per game.

FRIARS ON THE ROAD... Providence College has posted a 4-3 record on the road this season. The Friars have lost their last two road games, including a 4-1 setback at Northeastern on November 20. Prior to that, the Friars defeated 15th-ranked Massachusetts, 2-1, on October 31. The Friars also have posted road wins at seventh-ranked Notre Dame and at Bowling Green State (8-2 on 10/23 and 3-1 on 10/24). Last season, the Friars posted a 4-11-3 mark in games away from Schneider Arena.

FRIARS IN CLOSE GAMES... Four of PC's seven wins this season have been one-goal contests. PC edged Holy Cross, 2-1, on October 10 and Notre Dame, 3-2, on October 15. PC also posted a 2-1 triumph at No. 17 Massachusetts on October 31 and most recently defeated Brown, 4-3, on November 17. Last season, the Friars posted a 3-3 record in one-goal games.

BEAUDRY AMONG NATIONAL LEADERS... Alex Beaudry comes into this weekend among the top-21 in the nation in two statistical categories. He ranks 21st with a 2.29 goals against average and 17th with a .927 save percentage. Beaudry has helped the Friar defense allow 29 goals in 12 games.
