TAMPA, FLA. -- The Providence College women's soccer team fell, 2-0 to the University of South Florida Bulls on Sunday, September 28 in Tampa, Florida. The Friars fall to 5-3-1, (0-2-1 BIG EAST) on the season while the Bulls improve to 5-2-3, (1-1-1 BIG EAST).
In the first half, the Friars mounted early pressure against the Bulls, outshooting their opponents in the opening period, 6-3. USF opened the scoring in the 34th minute as Brittany Pilon scored her first goal of the season. Friar sophomore goalkeeper Jill Schott (Windham, N.H.) registered one of her two saves in the first half.
The Bulls added their second goal in the 90th minute with Alendra Santos scoring her second goal of the season.
Junior Nicole Benko (Valley Stream, N.Y.) led the Friars with five shots out of her team's nine. USF finished the day with eight shots. PC had the edge in corner kicks, 3-2.
The Friars will next travel to Cincinnati to take on the Bearcats in BIG EAST action on Friday, October 3 at 7:00 p.m.
