The Providence College volleyball team was defeated by Texas-El Paso, 3-0, on Saturday, September 20 in the team's final match of the Fifth Annual Friar Classic. The Miners won the match with game scores of 25-17, 25-19 and 25-15. UTEP moves to 4-9 with the victory, while Providence falls to 7-8.
Senior Kelly Krahenbuhl (Larkspur, Colo.) paced the Friars defensively, recording 13 digs. The 5-7 defensive specialist ranks first on the team with 189 digs on the year. Seniors Aida Cadres (Los Angeles, Calif.) and Jeanette Toney (Brooklyn, N.Y.) each posted seven kills for Providence. For her efforts, Toney was named to the Friar Classic All-Tournament team. Setting up the Friar attack was senior Sarah Sheehan (West Chester, Pa.). The 5-8 setter contributed 17 digs and added a service ace against UTEP. For her efforts, Sheehan also earned all-tournament honors.
The Friars return to action on Wednesday, September 24 at 6:00 p.m. with a home match against Manhattan.
