The Providence College volleyball team defeated Wagner, 3-2, on Saturday, September 13 in the team's second match of the Crusader Classic. The Friars won the match with game scores of 22-25, 25-21, 25-16, 21-25 and 18-16. With the victory, Providence moves to 6-4 on the season, while the Seahawks fall to 1-5. The win marks the Friars third-consecutive victory.
Middle blocker Elizabeth Flynn (Bellerose, N.Y.) continued her stellar senior campaign, posting a season-high 24 kills, five blocks and a hitting percentage of .524. On the season, Flynn is hitting at a nationally-ranked .474 clip. Junior Abby Majewski (Sunderland Mass.) contributed a season-high nine kills and added seven digs. The 5-9 outside hitter ranks fifth on the Friars with 46 kills on the year.
Leading the defense was specialist Kelly Krahenbuhl (Larkspur, Colo.). The 5-7 senior contributed 13 digs and has now reached double figures in the category in five consecutive matches. Senior setter Sara Sheehan (West Chester, Pa.) also achieved a season-high, registering 44 assists. Sheehan leads the Friars with 318 assists on the season.
Providence plays its final match of the Crusader Classic at 4:00 p.m. today against Bryant. The Friars are looking for their fourth-consecutive victory.
