Newark, N.J. - The Providence College volleyball team lost to NJIT, 3-0, on Friday, October 31 in the team's first match of the NJIT Halloween Classic. The Highlanders won the match with game scores of 25-15, 25-16 and 25-23. With the win, NJIT moves to 14-11, while Providence drops to 13-14.
Senior Jeanette Toney (Brooklyn, N.Y.) paced the Friar attack with 12 kills. The 5-10 middle blocker also contributed nine digs and three total blocks. Senior Elizabeth Flynn (Bellerose, N.Y.) added nine kills, hitting at a strong .364 clip.
Setting up the PC offense was senior Sara Sheehan (West Chester, Pa.). The 5-9 co-captain registered 25 assists and added seven digs. On the season, Sheehan has a team-high 756 assists and ranks second on the Friars with 153 digs.
Providence remains in Newark for two matches in the Halloween Classic on Saturday, November 1. The Friars will face Bryant at 10:00 a.m. and battle Howard at 2:00 p.m.
