Max Smith Wins 1,500 Meter NCAA East Regional Title

GAINESVILLE, FLA. - Providence College's Max Smith competed on day two at the NCAA East Regional Outdoor Track and Field Championship on Saturday, May 26 at James G. Pressly Stadium in Gainesville, Fla. Smith won the 1,500 meter final and will automatically advance to the NCAA Outdoor Track Championships in the event. A day after winning the prelims with a time of 3:42.73, Smith took first place in the final with a time of 3:41.09. He set an East Regional record in the event with his time. He also became the first male runner at Providence College to win an NCAA East Regional Title in track.

Smith will join Aine Hoban at the NCAA Outdoor Track Championships. Hoban automatically qualified for the NCAAs in the women's 5,000 meter run after finishing fourth in the East Regional final on Friday, May 25. Hoban finished the event with a time of 16:16.05.

The NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships will be held on June 6-9 at the Alex G. Spanos Sports Complex in Sacramento, Calif. For more information regarding the NCAA Championships, please visit www.hornetsports.com.
