PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Providence College field hockey players Rachel Chamberlain (Branford, Conn.) and Melissa McGow (Branford, Conn.) earned BIG EAST Conference honors on Monday, October 30. Chamberlain was named BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week, while McGow earned BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week recognition.

Chamberlain earns the league's Defensive Player of the Week honor for the fifth time this season. Last week she helped guide the Friars to a 2-0 record with victories over in-state rival Rhode Island and 9th-ranked Connecticut in BIG EAST action. Chamberlain posted her seventh shutout of the season vs. the Rams on October 25 in PC's 3-0 victory in Kingston, R.I. On October 28, the Friars claimed a share of the BIG EAST Regular-Season title with a 2-1 victory over UConn at the Friar Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex in Providence, R.I. She made four saves in the victory.

McGow led the Friar offense last week with a total of five points on 1 goal and three assists. In the victory over Rhode Island, McGow tallied what proved to be the game-winning goal and added one assist. In Providence's 2-1 victory against the Huskies on October 28, McGow tallied an assist on each Friar goal. Her two assists moved her into second place on PC's all-time career assist list with 43. She is five assists shy of tying Cami White's (`91) program record of 48 assists. McGow also ranks eighth all-time at PC in goals scored (34) and is sixth on the all-time career scoring list with 111 points. McGow has scored at least one point in 10 of PC's last 11 games, including a streak of six-straight games heading into the BIG EAST Championship.

Providence College completed its regular-season schedule with a 17-3 overall record and a 5-1 mark in the BIG EAST Conference. The Friars claimed a share of the BIG EAST Regular-Season title and the No. 2 seed in the upcoming BIG EAST Field Hockey Championship, scheduled for November 4-5 in Louisville, Ky.
