Men's Basketball Holds Annual Mal Brown Intrasquad Scrimmage

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The Providence College men's basketball team opened its season with its annual Mal Brown intrasquad scrimmage on Saturday, October 28 at the Dunkin' Donuts Center. The Black Shirts defeated the White Shirts, 66-56. Senior Herbert Hill (Kinston, N.C.) led the Black Shirts with a game-high 24 points as he shot 12-17 from the field.

The Friars split into two teams and played a spirited 30-minute game in front of more than 1000 fans who also attended the Fanfest prior to the action. It was an opportunity for the Friar faithful to see some of the returning veterans and the team's newcomers in action. In addition to Hill's 24 points, sophomore Weyinmi Efejuku (Fresh Meadows, N.Y.) also had a strong game for the Black Shirts with 16 points and six assists. Junior Jeff Xavier (Pawtucket, R.I.) added 14 points and sophomore Jon Kale (Mattapan, Mass.) contributed with 10 points and nine rebounds for the Black Shirts.

Sophomore Sharaud Curry (Marrietta, Ga.) scored 16 points to lead the White Shirts. Freshman Ray Hall (Denver, Colo.) registered 15 points and six rebounds in the center position for the White Shirts.

The Friars will play their first exhibition game on Thursday, November 2 at 7:30 p.m versus University of New Haven at the Dunkin' Donuts Center.
