PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College field hockey team fell to Northeastern, 5-2, on Sunday, September 4 at the Friar Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex in Providence, R.I. The game was tied, 1-1, at halftime, but Huskies exploded for four second-half goals to earn the win. Whitney Shean led the Huskies with two goals and two assists for six points. Providence College got one goal each from sophomore Abby Maguire (Southbury, Conn.) and sophomore Liz Cherry (Wilmington, N.C.). Maguire also registered an assist in the effort.

Northeastern jumped on the board 3:15 in the game as Ashley Webber scored off an assist from Shean. Providence tied the game 20-minutes later as Maguire connected on her team-high fourth goal of the season. The two teams went into halftime deadlocked at 1-1.

In the second half, Northeastern registered three-consecutive goals to take a 4-1 lead. Sarah Eckhoff started the scoring at the 37:59 mark off a direct shot on a penalty corner. Shean and Natalie Singelais were credited with the assists. Shean then netted two-straight goals at 43:46 and 47:47. Her first goal in the span came as she deflected a direct shot off a corner. Lauren Edelmeier earned the assist. Shean's second goal came off a rebound that hit the cross bar of the cage.

Providence answered at the 52:29 mark as Cherry connected on her first collegiate goal to make the score 4-2. She received a pass from Maguire in the middle of the circle and pushed it past the Huskies' goalkeeper.

Northeastern added an insurance goal at 58:45 to make the final, 5-2. Rachel Wilkes connected, unassisted, off a blast from the right side of the circle.

Freshman goalkeeper Stephanie Scavelli (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) faced 35 shots from Northeastern, 24 of which were on goal. She registered a season-high 17 saves. Liz Centofanti made one save for Northeastern.

Providence (1-2) will return to action on Wednesday, September 7 against Holy Cross at 7:00 p.m. The game will be played at PC's Friar Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex in Providence, R.I. Prior to the start of the game, there will be a brief ceremony to officially celebrate the opening of the Friars' new facility.
