Villanova Defeats Women's Basketball Team, 75-50

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College women's basketball team was defeated by Villanova, 75-50, during BIG EAST Conference action on Wednesday, February 16 at Alumni Hall/Mullaney Gymnasium in Providence, R.I.
Liad Suez led the Wildcats with a game-high 19 points and Jackie Adamshick registered a double-double with 18 points and career-high 14 rebounds. PC sophomores Jill Furstenburg (Whitehouse Station, N.J.) and Shauna Snyder (Albuquerque, N.M.) combined to score 30 of the Friars' 50 points, led by Furstenburg's 16.
Villanova got on the board first with a free-throw from Adamshick at the 18:07 mark of the first half. Providence nailed the game's first field goal to make the score 2-1 with 17:47 left on the clock. From that point, Villanova went on a 12-0 run to take a 13-2 lead with 14:03 remaining. The Wildcats pushed their lead to 20 points as they outscored Providence, 17-8, over the next 9:34 of action to take a 30-10 lead. Both teams finished out the half scoring 11 points each, and the Wildcats took a 41-21 advantage into the break.
The Wildcats outscored Providence 21-10 over the first 10 and a half minutes of the second half to take a 62-31 lead. Providence held a 19-13 scoring advantage over the final nine minutes of the game, but the deficit was too large to overcome.
Freshman Kristen Brown (River Vale, N.J.) grabbed a team-high eight rebounds for Providence. The Wildcats out-rebounded Providence, 38-29, for the game. Twelve of PC's 29 boards came off the offensive glass.
Providence College (1-22, 0-12 BIG EAST) returns to action on Saturday, February 19 against Pittsburgh in a BIG EAST match-up. The game will be played at the Petersen Events Center in Pittsburgh, Pa. Tip-off is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
