Women's Hoops Falls At Pittsburgh, 63-47

PITTSBURGH, PA. - The Providence College women's basketball team lost to Pittsburgh, 63-47, during a BIG EAST Conference match-up on Saturday, February 19, 2005 at the Petersen Events Center in Pittsburgh, Pa. Marcedes Walker notched a double-double with 23 points and 16 rebounds in the Panther victory. Sophomore Shauna Snyder (Albuquerque, N.M.) netted a team-high 21 points for Providence.
In the first half, Pittsburgh and Providence were tied, 13-13, at the 10:13 mark. The Panthers went on a 14-0 run over the next 4:32 to take a 27-13 lead. Pittsburgh took its largest lead of the half (19 points) at the 2:33 mark with the score showing 34-15. The Friars rallied back in the closing minutes on a 7-2 scoring run to cut the lead to 14 at halftime (36-22). Snyder scored 15 of PC's 22 points in the half.
In the second half, Pittsburgh outscored Providence by two points (27-25) to earn the 16 point victory. Vika Sholokhova and Allisha Morris each tallied 11 points to join Walker in double figures for Pitt. PC's Kristen Brown (River Vale, N.J.) scored nine points and pulled down a team-high 10 rebounds.
Providence College (1-23, 0-13 BIG EAST) will return to action West Virginia on Tuesday, February 22 at 7:00 p.m. The game will be played at WVU Coliseum in Morgantown, W. Va.
