PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) -- Randall Hanke scored a career-high 34 points and Providence scored 31 consecutive points in a run that began late in the first half as the Friars defeated Northeastern, 92-70 on Tuesday night.
Northeastern (6-2) led 39-28 with 3:10 remaining in the first half, but Providence (4-4) scored the final eight points before the break and went into halftime trailing 39-36.
The Friars scored the first 23 points of the second half before Northeastern finally got on the board on Janon Cole's three-point play with 12:41 left in the game. The Huskies scoreless drought lasted 10:29.
Hanke added 12 rebounds for the Friars. Donnie McGrath added 16 points and became the 37th players in school history to surpass the 1,000-point barrier.
Friar freshman Geoff McDermott had a big game on the glass as he registered a game and career-high 16 rebounds. He also chipped in with 10 points and his first collegiate double-double.
For the game, the Friars shot 50.7 percent (38-75), which marked the fourth time in eight games this season that the team shot over 50 percent. PC, which entered the game leading the BIG EAST in field goal percentage, is now shooting 49 percent (227-463) on the season.
Jose Juan Barea, one of the top scorers in the nation, finished with 18 points to lead the Huskies.
