PROVIDENCE COLLEGE (6-12, 1-3 BIG EAST): The Providence College field hockey team will travel to Storrs, Conn. to conclude the 2005 season against BIG EAST foe Connecticut on Saturday, October 29. The Friars enter Saturday's contest with a 6-12 overall record and a 1-3 mark in the BIG EAST Conference. Seven of the teams' 12 losses have been decided by a goal, including two games which required overtime.

Sophomore Abby Maguire (Southbury, Conn.) leads the Friars with 22 points on nine goals and four assists. Junior Emily Ewens (Vancouver, B.C.) joins Maguire for the team lead in goals with nine and ranks second in scoring with 18 points. Junior Melissa McGow (Branford, Conn.) also has 18 points on four goals and 10 assists. Senior Kati Lary (Canaan, N.H.) and junior Jessica Weinstein (Bridgeton, N.J.) round out the Friars who have reached double digits in scoring with 16 points and 11 points, respectively. Freshman goalkeeper Stephanie Scavelli (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) has played 1,264 minutes in goal this season. She owns a 2.77 goals against average and a 0.677 save percentage.

Providence College will lose two team members to graduation after the season, in Lary and senior defender Kristen Baraiola (Wallingford, Conn.). The Friars are slated to return 17 players from the roster next season, including nine members of the starting line-up. Three other returners been mixed into the starting line-up at times during the 2005 season as well.

UNIVERSITY OF CONNECTICUT (13-5, 3-1 BIG EAST): Connecticut enters Saturday's game against the Friars with a 13-5 overall record and a 3-1 mark in the BIG EAST Conference, and the Huskies are currently ranked 12th in the latest NFHCA Division I Coaches' Poll. UConn is coming off of a 1-0 loss to Boston College on October 26 in Storrs, Conn. Lizzy Peijs, Kristin Galuski and Rebecca Helwig each have eclipsed the 20-point plateau this season. Peijs leads the Huskies with 29 points on 10 goals and nine assists. Galuski has a team-leading 12 goals to go along with two assists for 26 points, while Helwig has notched 24 points on 10 goals and four assists. Laura Puddle leads the team in assists with 12.

Melissa Bostwick has played 1,250 minutes in goal this season. She has allowed 25 goals in 17 games for a 1.40 goals against average and a 0.597 save percentage. Bostwick has posted three shutouts this season.

Regardless of Sunday's outcome, the Huskies will be the No. 2 seed in the upcoming BIG EAST Conference Field Hockey Championship, which begins with the semifinals on November 4 in Piscataway, N.J. The outcome however, will determine whether or not UConn will share the BIG EAST regular-season title or finish in second place in the league standings. If the Huskies defeat Providence, they would share the league crown with Villanova. If the Huskies lose to Providence, they would finish second.
