PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College volleyball team (4-14) was defeated by Central Connecticut (11-4) this evening by the score of 3-1. Providence won the first game, 30-20, but lost the next three, 23-30, 24-30 and 20-30.
Sophomore Kerry Schulz (Fairfield, Conn.) totaled 12 kills, while senior captain Ayana Cadres (Los Angeles, Calif.) tallied a team-high 15 kills to go along with six digs. Junior setter Annie Fiorvanti (Northport, N.Y.) posted 35 assists along with eight kills and 11 digs, while senior Jennifer Backes (Seaford, N.Y.) had a team-high 16 digs. Junior Allison Baker (Glastonbury, Conn.) chipped in 11 digs to round out the Friar scoresheet.
As a team the Friars totaled 7.0 blocks, their highest figure at home this year, and second-highest single-match total of the season.
CCSU had two players post double-doubles in the win.
Providence volleyball returns to action next Tuesday, Oct. 12 as it hosts Boston College at 7:00 p.m.
