Friar Basketball Featured In Current Issue Of Sports Illustrated

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- It was announced on Tuesday, October 26 that this week's issue of Sports Illustrated will feature an article by George Dohrmann on the 2004 Providence College men's basketball recruiting class. Dohrmann provides the readers with an inside look at the Friar coaching staff's 13-month pursuit of this year's freshman class. Dohrmann described the experience as "...a process filled with red herrings, blind alleys, rejection, despair -- and, in the end high hopes."

The article, which will appear on newstands on Wednesday, October 27, is titled "The Chosen Ones." Friar Head Coach Tim Welsh, Associate Head Coach Steve Demeo and Assistant Coach Phil Seymore are featured prominently throughout the article. Dohrman describes their efforts in recruiting freshmen Charlie Burch (Dorchester, Mass.), Randall Hanke (New York, N.Y.), Rob McKiver (New Haven, Conn.) and DeSean White (Philadelphia, Pa.).
