SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - The Providence College volleyball team (4-19) was defeated at Shippensburg University (16-14) by the score of 3-0 this afternoon. The Friars lost by scores of 30-24, 30-15 and 32-30.
A box score of the match will not be available until early next week.
Shippensburg quickly gained a 2-0 lead after dispatching the visiting Friars 30-24 and 30-15. The Friars jumped out to a 8-1 lead in the third set, lead by the strong play by offensive leader Ayana Cadres, a senior from Los Angeles, California that averaged 3.48 kills per game last season for the Friars.
However, Providence could not sustain leads of 17-8 and 29-26, as the Lady Raiders rallied to nod the third game at 30. After Kilgore ripped a kill and a deflection traveled out-of-bounds, Shippensburg had won the final game 32-30 and the match 3-0.
Providence volleyball returns to action Tuesday, October 26, as it travels to Siena for a 7:00 p.m. contest. The match will be televised live by Time Warner Cable (TW3) in the Albany area.
