MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - The Providence College volleyball team (4-16) was defeated at West Virginia (14-7) by the score 3-0 this evening. The Friars lost by scores of 30-19, 30-28 and 30-26.
Senior captain Ayana Cadres (Los Angeles, Calif.) notched her fourth double-double of the season with a team-high 19 kills to go along with 16 digs. Classmate Jennifer Backes (Seaford, N.Y.) tallied a season-high 19 digs for the Friars, who totaled 71 as a team, their highest three-game total of the year.
Junior setter Annie Fiorvanti (Northport, N.Y.) chipped in a game-high 29 assists along with 10 digs for her team-leading seventh double-double of the season. Freshman Kasey Adinolfi (Branford, Conn.) also posted an impressive outing totaling seven digs over three games, while classmate Whitney Hassett (East Greenwich, R.I.) totaled five digs in one game.
West Virginia used an all-around team effort in posting its third straight victory. Eleven different players saw action including junior Stephanie Zolna (Mission Viejo, Calif.) who totaled 10 kills and 11 digs.
Providence volleyball returns to action Saturday, October 16, as it travels to Saint Francis (Pa.) for a 4:00 p.m. contest.
