Men's Basketball Ranked 23rd And 24th Nationally

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The Providence College men's basketball team is ranked 23rd in the nation, according to the most recent Associated Press Poll and 24th in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll. Both polls were released on Monday, January 26. Duke is ranked No. 1 in both polls. Providence, which was ranked 25th in the Associated Press Poll (Jan. 6) earlier in the season, is ranked in both polls for the first time since the 1988-89 season. Also, PC's ranking in the Associated Press Poll (23rd) is the highest the team has been ranked during the regular season since the Friars were 20th in the Associated Press Poll on January 24, 1989.

The Friars, 14-3 overall, have posted a 5-1 mark in BIG EAST action and are tied for first place with No. 7/6 Pittsburgh. Providence has won six consecutive games, including a 66-56 win at then No. 4/4 Connecticut on January 24. Providence returns to action versus Seton Hall on Sunday, February 1 at noon.
