PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The Providence College Friars (11-3) used a school-record 17 three pointers to earn an 89-59 win over Loyola University Chicago (6-10) at the Dunkin' Donuts Center in Providence, R.I. Senior Chris Anrin (Varmdo, Sweden) led the Friars with 16 points, including a 5-7 performance from three-point territory.
Providence opened the game hitting a three pointer and never looked back as they opened up a 23-point lead with 2:35 remaining in the first half. They ended the half leading, 50-28, and hitting 10 of 17 three-point attempts.
In the second half, the Friars continued to pour on the offense. PC took its largest lead of the game when freshman Sean Van De Walle (Elmhurst, Ill.) hit a three-point shot with one second remaining in the game as the Friars finished with the 89-59 win. Van De Walle's three established the Friar record for three-pointers in a game.
Providence junior Ryan Gomes (Waterbury, Conn.) registered a game-high 12 rebounds, but scored only six points in the contest. It ended his streak of 27 consecutive games of scoring in double figures.
In addition to Anrin, three other Friars scored in double figures. Sophomore Donnie McGrath (Katonah, N.Y.) registered 11 points, freshman Dwight Brewington (Lynn, Mass.) and junior Tuukka Kotti (Forssa, Finland) added 13 points for the PC.
Paul McMillan led Loyola with 16 points.
With the win, the Friars finish the non-conference portion of the season with a 9-2 mark, which is the team's best record in non-conference regular season action since the 1996-97 team posted a 9-2 mark.
