EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) - Ryan Gomes and Marcus Douthit each scored 14 points and Providence finally survived the buzzer, beating Seton Hall 63-60 Monday night, snapping the Pirates' eight-game winning streak.

The Friars (9-3, 1-1 Big East) saw Andre Barrett, Andre Sweet and John Allen miss game-tying 3-point attempts for Seton Hall (11-3, 1-1) in the final 8 seconds in ending an incredible two-game losing streak in which both losses came at the buzzer.

Texas beat the then-No. 25 Friars 79-77 last Monday in overtime in a game that the officials needed 7 minutes of videotape review to decide whether the final shot counted. Rutgers posted a 65-64 win Saturday with a 3-pointer with less than a second to play.

Barrett had 14 points to lead Seton Hall, which also had a 13-game home winning streak - dating to last season - snapped. Sweet had 12 and Allen and J.R. Morris each added 11.

This game had all the drama of the other two, with neither team leading by more than six points in the final half.

Douthit gave the Friars the lead for good at 59-57, taking a pass from Gomes and hitting a foul-line jumper with 1:54 to play.

Tuuka Kotti stole a pass from Barrett on the ensuing possession and Gomes stretched the lead to 61-57 by putting in the rebound of Kotti's fastbreak miss.

A layup by Donnie McGrath gave the Friars a 63-57 lead with a minute to play, but Barrett closed the gap to 63-60 with a 3-pointer with 49 seconds to go.

Kotti and Sheiku Kabba, who had 12 points, both missed the front ends of 1-and-ls with 30 and 13 seconds to play, respectively, to give the Pirates a final chance.

Morris missed a game-tying 3-pointer after Kotti's miss and then Seton Hall had a trio of chances to tie in the closing seconds, with each shot bouncing off the rim. Barrett missed with 8 seconds to go. Sweet missed with 4 seconds left while Allen got his off with less than a second to go.

Sweet had capped a 7-0 run with a baseline layup to give Seton Hall a 55-51 lead with 5:02 to play.

McGrath, who missed two late free throws that proved costly in the loss at Rutgers, got the Friars within a point with a 3-pointer with 3:59 to go and Kabba hit another 3 to give Providence a 57-54 lead. Allen tied the game at 57 with 2:20 to go.

Providence, which trailed by 10 points with 8:26 left in the opening half, used a 23-9 spurt to take a 34-30 halftime lead. The Friars, who had gotten most of their points inside, got three consecutive 3-pointers from Kabba and McGrath late in the run.
