Field Hockey Falls To No. 18 Boston College, 2-0

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College field hockey team was defeated by No. 18 Boston College, 2-0, in the 2003 BIG EAST opener on Wednesday, September 24 in Providence, R.I. The Friars win streak ends at four games and falls to 5-3 overall on the season and 0-1 in the BIG EAST Conference.

The Eagles scored their first goal of the game with 5:33 remaining in the first half as sophomore Sara York (Watertown, Mass.) scored on a penalty corner assisted by junior Kerri Doherty (Lynnfield, Mass.). The remaining goal of the game was scored by senior Kim French (Shrewsbury, Mass.). French also scored on a penalty corner as Doherty registered her second assist of the game at the 15:48 mark of the second half to give Boston College a 2-0 victory.

Senior goalkeeper Meaghan Moran (Framingham, Mass.) registered 10 saves in the Friar loss. Lauren Hill (Bethesda, Md.) posted her fourth shutout of the season with seven saves in goal for the Eagles.

Providence (5-3, 0-1 BIG EAST) will host two non-conference opponents this week. The Friars will take on New Hampshire at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, September 26, followed by Maine on Sunday, September 28 at Noon.
