AMHERST, MASS. - The Providence College field hockey team defeated Massachusetts, 2-1, in overtime on Saturday, September 20 in Amherst, Massachusetts. Senior Stefanie Suehnholz (Flemington, N.J.) netted the game-winning goal on a penalty corner just 1:47 into the overtime session. The win helps Providence improve to 4-2 overall on the season. Three of their four victories have been decided in overtime.

The Minutewomen got on the scoreboard first as Robin Dziedzic scored an unassisted goal with 25:47 remaining in the first half, as UMass controlled play for the majority of the half.

The Friars tied the game, 1-1, with just 5:13 remaining in regulation as freshman Melissa McGow (Branford, Conn.) picked up her fourth goal of the season on a feed from junior Melissa Kroslak (Hopkinton, Mass.) in front of the cage. McGow's equalizer forced overtime and allowed Suehnholz's overtime heroics. Sophomore Katharine Lary (Canaan, N.H.) assisted on the game-winner as she passed the ball to Suehnholz at the top of the circle. Suehnholz fired a direct shot on goal that was initially stopped by the goaltender, but trickled in the cage after an awkward rebound off the pads.

Senior Meaghan Moran (Framingham, Mass.) earned the victory in the cage for the Friars. Moran played all 71:47 minutes and made six saves. Christine Tocco made eight saves for the Minutewomen in the loss. Providence improves to 4-2 overall, while UMass drops to 2-6 on the season.

The Friars return to action on Sunday, September 21 in a non-conference tilt against Albany at 4:30 p.m. The game will be played on the campus of R.P.I. in Troy, N.Y.
