BALTIMORE, MD - The Providence College volleyball team was defeated by Rider, 3-0 (33-31, 32-30, 30-24), and Georgia State, 3-0 (30-13, 30-15, 30-23) in the final day of action at the 2003 UMBC Retriever Invitational. With the losses, Providence falls to 0-9 on the season.
Versus Rider, freshman Kerry Schulz (Fairfield, Conn.) played standout defense with 14 kills for Providence. Friar junior Ayana Cadres (Los Angeles, Calif.) had 17 kills on 36 total attacks for a .333 hitting percentage.
Sophomore Allison Baker (Glastonbury, Conn.) recorded seven kills in the Georgia State match. Cadres was named to the all-tournament team.
Providence opens a slate of seven home matches at Mullaney Gym on Monday, September 15 at 7:00 p.m. versus Eastern Washington.
