NEW BRITAIN, CONN. - Despite double-doubles by sophomore Katie Fleming (Cary, N.C.) and junior Ayana Cadres (Los Angeles, Calif.), Providence College was defeated by Central Connecticut, 3-1, in volleyball action on Wednesday, September 17 at Detrick Gymnasium.
Fleming recorded 16 kills and 16 digs for Providence (0-11) while Cadres recorded 14 kills and 12 digs.
After falling in the first two games, 30-17 and 30-23, Providence rallied to hit for a match-best .316 in a 30-22 game three win. The Friars were unable to capture the fourth game as Central Connecticut (8-1) held on for a 30-24 win and match victory.
Shannon Verity led the Blue Devils as she hit for 23 kills and notched 11 digs.
Providence will return to action on Friday, September 19 at 7:30 p.m. at Lehigh in the 2003 Mountain Hawk Classic.
