TAMPA, Fla. -- Florida Atlantic defeated the Providence College men's soccer team, 3-1, in the first game of the University of South Florida AmeriSuites Tournament on Friday, September 12 in Tampa, Fla.
Florida Atlantic jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead just 3:17 into the game when Scott Rauscher scored off a cross from the left corner of the box. Bjorn Totland enabled Florida Atlantic to enter halftime with a two-goal lead as he scored the team's second goal with less than five minutes remaining in the half. Friar sophomore Eoin Lynch (Yarmouth, Maine) got the Friars on the scoreboard when he redirected a shot from David Chase at 63:41. Kristoffer Aarskog sealed the win for Florida Atlantic after he scored on a breakaway with 28 seconds remaining in the game.
Friar junior goalkeeper Jeff Newman (Northboro, Mass.) made 10 saves in the loss.
With the win, Florida Atlantic improved to 1-2 overall, while Providence fell to 2-3 overall.
Providence College returns to action on Sunday, September 14 vs. South Florida in the final game of the tournament at 1:00 p.m.
