PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Providence College field hockey coach Diane Madl announced on April 10 that student-athlete Melissa McGow has signed a National Letter of Intent to attend Providence College in the fall of 2003. McGow becomes the fourth high school student-athlete to sign a National Letter of Intent with the Friars under first-year Head Coach Diane Madl.
McGow, a native of Branford, Conn, helped lead Branford High School (Conn.) to two-straight Class M State Championships (2001 and 2002), and earned CIAC Championship Game MVP honors in 2002. She is a two-time, First-Team All-State and All-Conference selection (2001 and 2002) and was named Regional All-America during her final season at Branford High. McGow also earned First-Team All-League honors twice (2001 and 2002), was named MVP of the All-Area Team by the New Haven Register (2002). She earned the Hartford Courant's "Best of the Best" award as the top player in the State of Connecticut in 2001. She finished her career with 78 goals and 44 assists, and set the school record for career goals (78) and goals in a single season (39) in 2002. In McGow's four-year high school career, Branford posted a 65-5-6 record for an .890 winning percentage.
