VILLANOVA, Pa. (AP) - Randy Foye scored 14 points to lead six Villanova players in double figures as the Wildcats beat Providence 81-67 Saturday.
Villanova (9-5, 2-0 Big East) took control of the backboards in the second half, finishing with a 51-31 rebounding advantage, to steadily pull away.
Sheiku Kabba's three-pointer with 14:14 remaining drew Providence (8-5, 2-1) to within four, 50-46. Villanova then went on another 10-3 run, punctuated by Foye's three-pointer with 11:07 remaining, to take its first double-digit lead of the game.
The two teams were locked in a tight battle throughout the first half before the Wildcats went on a late 10-3 spurt to take a 37-29 lead into the locker room.
Jason Fraser and Derrick Snowden each scored 12 points for Villanova, and Fraser also pulled down 13 rebounds. Ricky Wright added 11 and Gary Buchanan had 10, while Curtis Sumpter scored 11 off the bench.
Ryan Gomes led Providence with 14 points and Maris Laksa added 13.
