AUSTIN, Texas - Brandon Mouton scored 18 points and James Thomas grabbed 17 rebounds in a dominating effort on the boards Monday night to lead Texas to 68-48 victory over Providence.

The Longhorns (10-4) have won three straight since losing star forward Chris Owens for the season with a knee injury. Ryan Gomes scored 19 for Providence (9-7), which has lost three in a row.

Mouton scored 16 in the first half, including eight in a row in a 16-4 run that opened up a 23-8 Texas lead 11 minutes into the game.

Sydmill Harris, Royal Ivey and Fredie Williams then connected on consecutive 3-pointers for Texas, which shot 53 percent in taking a 40-25 halftime lead. The Longhorns outrebounded the Friars 24-9 over the first 20 minutes.

Providence held Texas to just two field goals over the first five minutes of the second half but couldn't close the gap as the Friars continued to get dominated on the boards. A dunk by Thomas started a 11-2 run that pushed Texas' lead to 54-33 lead with 11:45 to play.

Texas outrebounded Providence 49-22 for the game. Texas was 6-of-13 from 3-point range while the Friars were just 3-of-17 in a desperate attempt to catch up. T.J. Ford had 10 assists for the Longhorns.

It was the last non-conference game of the season for both teams. Texas plays in the Big 12. Providence is in the Big East.
