PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Kueth Duany scored all 16 of his points in the second half to help 16th-ranked Syracuse rally to beat Providence 73-66 Saturday.
Preston Shumpert also came on strong late for the Orangemen (13-2, 2-0 Big East). His basket with 4:25 left gave Syracuse its first lead of the second half, and his 3-pointer with 3{ minutes to go made it a four-point cushion.
Duany made three of four free throws in the closing seconds to seal the victory.
Providence (9-6, 0-2 Big East) led by a point at halftime and used a 15-4 run early in the second half to extend the lead.
Sophomore forward Christopher Anrin scored a game-high 20 points, including a career-high six 3-pointers. But he missed on an open look from behind the arc with 28 seconds left.
DeShaun Williams added 16 points for the Orangemen, while Shumpert finished with 12.
The Friars' Ryan Gomes nails the jumper from the foul line. |
