The Providence College women's basketball team was defeated by Notre Dame in BIG EAST Conference action, 69-41, on Saturday, January 19 in Providence, Rhode Island, as a season-high 1,750 fans looked on.

Freshman Michal Epstein (Rehovot, Israel) led the Friars with a game and career-high 15 points, and pulled down six rebounds. Grad student Dani Trippany (Massena, N.Y.) added eight points and a game-high 10 rebounds in the effort.

The beginning of the game was all Providence, as the Friars took off on a game-opening 10-2 run, within the first 4:03 of play. Notre Dame responded with an 11-2 run to take a one-point lead (13-12), with 11:31 on the clock. The Irish controlled the tempo for the remainder of the game, and only relinquished the lead once more during the game, with 3:17 remaining in the first half, as Providence took a 25-24 lead, on two free throws from Epstein. Notre Dame then closed out the half, with an 8-2 run to lead, 32-27, at the break.

In the second half, Providence scored just 14 points on five-of-28 (17.9%) shooting from the floor, while Notre Dame connected on 12-of-24 (50.0%) attempts from the field, and outscored the Friars, 69-41 for the game.

Four Irish reached double figures, led by freshman Jacqueline Batteast's 14 points. Le'Tania Severe and Allison Bustamante scored 13 points and 12 points, respectively. Teresa Borton registered 11 points and pulled down a team and game-high 10 points.

Providence falls to 8-10 overall, and 2-5 in BIG EAST play. Notre Dame improves to 10-6 overall, 4-1 in the BIG EAST. The Friars will travel to Seton Hall on Saturday, January 26, to face the Pirates at 2:00 p.m.
