RADFORD, Va. - The Providence field hockey team defeated Radford University 2-1 in overtime, on Friday, September, 21 in Radford, Virginia. Junior Courtney Dow (Hampstead, N.H.) scored her fifth goal of the season in the overtime period to give the Friars their fourth-straight victory, and fifth overall.

Radford got on the scoreboard first as Erin Lenhardt scored at 20:31 in the second half. The goal ended a three-and-a-half game shut-out streak by Friar goalkeeper Meaghan Moran (Framingham, Mass.).

Also in the second half, Providence's Katie Willett (Biddeford, Maine) connected on a penalty stroke with 9:53 left in regulation to tie the game, 1-1. The stroke was called nearly two minutes after a Providence timeout, as a scramble occurred in front of the cage.

In the overtime period, Dow was left wide-open on the right side of the goal. She drove the game-winning goal past Radford's keeper at the 9:17 mark after a series of shots. Dow gained control of the ball off a deflection.

Moran did not make a single save in the game, and faced only two shots from the Highlanders. Radford goalie, Brooke Peterson made six saves in the losing effort. Peterson faced 19 Providence attempts.

The Friars improve to 5-1 on the season. They will travel to Davidson on Sunday, September 23 to face the Wildcats at 2:00 p.m. Radford falls to 2-5.
