Volleyball Defeated By Northeastern In Home-Opener

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The Providence College volleyball team was defeated in its home-opener by Northeastern University on Tuesday, September 18 in the Peterson Recreation Center in Providence. The Huskies (5-3 overall) won three games in the best three-of-five games match.

The Friars (1-7) were led by senior outside hitter Sarah Katinger (Stratford, Conn.), who totalled a match-high 20 kills in the loss. She added 14 digs and one service ace in the defeat. Classmate Annie Cella (Burr Ridge, Ill.) added 13 kills, a match-high 19 digs and three aces and freshman middle blocker Ayana Cadres (Los Angeles, Calif.) added 10 kills, one ace and two blocks.

The Huskies were led by senior Kristin Deatherage, who totalled 12 kills, six digs and two blocks. Teammate Lindsay Wagner added 10 kills, 13 digs and one ace.

The Friars return to action this weekend, when they host BIG EAST Conference foes Pittsburgh and West Virginia on Saturday, September 22 and Sunday, September 23, respectively. Both matches will begin at 2:00 p.m.
