PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College women's ice hockey team earned their third-consecutive win as they beat Wayne State 6-1 on Saturday afternoon in Schneider Arena.
The Friars took the early lead as Jenn Butsch scored the first goal of the game with 1:05 left in the first period off a double-assist from Jackie Tamsin and Holley Tyng. Sarah Youlen scored what proved to be the game-winner 32 seconds into the second period . Darlene Stephenson followed with a goal of her own at the 4:36 mark from Jessica Tabb and Melanie Ruzzi.
Wayne State got on the board on a power-play opportunity to make the score 3-1 as Serena Hillman connected off of a Katie Jones pass at 13:38, but it was the only goal the Warriors would score.
Tamsin, Butsch and Tabb closed out the offensive attack as they scored one goal each. Tamsin's goal was assisted by Danielle Culgin and Ruzzi. Ruzzi registered her third assist of the game and Tabb earned her second on Butsch's goal at 19:10 in the second, and Tabb registered her goal, short handed at 9:46 in the third period.
Freshman goalie Amy Quinlan played all 60 minutes and made 13 saves. Wayne State goalkeeper Anna VanderMarliere made 44 saves in 60 minutes.
