PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College women's ice hockey team fell to Brown 6-1 in ECAC action on Sunday, February 25, at Schneider Arena.
Brown took the lead in the first period at the 16:41 mark as Kristy Zamora scored the first of her three goals enroute to a hat trick. Zamora's goal came off a double assist from teammates Cara Gardner and Courtney Johnson.
Providence tied the game 1-1, 47 seconds into the second period, as Jessica Tabb connected on her team-leading, 18th goal of the season. Kim Mathias and Darlene Stephenson were each credited with assists. Tabb's goal proved to be the only offense Providence would receive, while Brown rattled off five more unanswered goals to close out the game.
Meredith Ostrander put the Bears up 2-1 at the 8:26 mark of the second period off an assist from Johnson. Zamora then finished off her hat trick by scoring consecutive goals at 17:58 of the second period and 9:22 in the third. Johnson and Ostrander assisted on the Zamora's second goal, while the third was unassisted. Johnson finished the game with three assists.
Defender, Kim Insalaco connected on a goal to put Brown up 5-1, 12:31 into the final period from Ostrander, and Christina Sorbara added the sixth and final goal of the game for Brown off a feed from Kathleen Krauth two minutes and 10 seconds later (14:21).
The Bears scored on two of three power play opportunities. Providence had six power play opportunities, but was unable to get itself on the scoreboard. Brown goalkeeper Pam Dreyer played all 60 minutes and made 27 saves in the win. Friar netminder Amy Quinlan played 55:43 minutes before being replaced by Brigid Keady (4:17). Quinlan left the game with 28 saves and gave up all six Bear goals. Keady finished the game and registered two saves.
Providence (17-12-3, 9-10-3 ECAC) will play it's final two regular season games of the year at Dartmouth (Saturday, March 3) and at Boston College (Sunday, March 4). Both games are scheduled to start at 2:00 p.m.
