Friars Fall To Northeastern In Women's Ice Hockey

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College women's ice hockey team out shot Northeastern 38-16 on Sunday, February 18 at Schneider Arena, but fell victim to the Huskies 2-1 in ECAC action.

Northeastern jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first period as Lisa Giovanelli and Kim Greene tallied one goal each. Giovanelli's goal came at the 4:36 mark off of a feed from Brooke Whitney. Greene scored an unassisted goal at 8:47, which proved to be the only other goal the Huskies would need to claim the win.

In the second period, the Friars scored their only goal as Kim Mathias netted her 15th goal of the season, short-handed at 7:08.

Friar goalkeeper Amy Quinlan played 58:33 minutes in goal and made 16 saves. Her records falls to 8-9-1 overall. Northeastern goalie Erika Silva made 38 saves in 60 minutes of play.

Providence (17-10-3, 9-8-3 ECAC) will host Harvard on Saturday, February 24 at Schneider Arena. The following day, the Friars will take on Brown at home. Both games are scheduled to start at 2:00 p.m.
