PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The Providence College women's basketball team defeated Georgetown University, 80-77, in a BIG EAST Conference women's basketball contest played at PC's Alumni Hall in Providence, R.I.
The Friars (9-13 overall/3-9 BIG EAST) led by three, 38-35, at halftime and survived two three-point attempts by the Hoyas' sniper Katie Smrcka-Duffy to earn the three-point victory - their third conference victory of the year.
PC senior forward Monika Roberts (Pittsburg, Calif.) led five Providence players who scored in double figures with a team-best 19 points. She grabbed four rebounds, a blocked shot and a rebound. Freshman Kristin Quinn (Sewell, N.J.), this week's BIG EAST Co-Rookie of the Week, added 16 points, with five rebounds, four assists and a steal in her second-straight complete-game, 40-minute effort.

The Friars led, 80-77, after Quinn hit two free throws. On the ensuing possession, Smrcka-Duffy's three-point attempt with six seconds left was blocked by PC's Gombotz. The Hoyas' got the ball back under the basket with :01 remaining in the contest and Smrcka-Duffy's top-of-the-circle three missed short and right for the Providence win.
