PISCATAWAY, N.J. (AP) - A 24-2 run in the opening of the game helped No. 12 Rutgers cruise to a 97-68 victory over Providence on Saturday.
The Scarlet Knights (17-5, 9-2 Big East), who needed overtime to beat the Friars the last time the teams met, forced nine turnovers in the first four minutes of the game as they moved to an early 22-point lead.
Karlita Washington led Rutgers with a career-high 25 points, 20 in the first half when the team shot 24-for-32 from the floor while building a 55-30 lead.
Tammy Sutton-Brown scored 20 points and Tasha Pointer added 17 points, 10 rebounds and 11 assists for Rutgers. It was Pointer's third triple-double of the season.
Kristin Quinn had 16 points and Monika Roberts 10 for the Friars (8-13, 2-9).
