Providence Can't Stop Power-Play

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College women's ice hockey team fell to St. Lawrence University 6-3 on Saturday afternoon at Schneider Arena in ECAC action. The Friars fell victim as the Saints were able to capitalize on four of six power-play opportunities.

PC recieved goal support from Jenn Butsch in the first period of play off a feed from Kim Mathias at the 7:15 mark to make the score 1-1. The Saints tallied two more goals by the end of the period to make the score 3-1. In the second period, the Friars and Saints scored two goals each. Darlene Stephenson connected for PC at 5:51 and Jessica Tabb scored the final Friar goal of the day off an assist from Valerie Bono at 16:36. At the end of two, the Saints remained on top 5-3. St. Lawrence scored the final goal of the game in the third period at 7:54 to take the 6-3 victory.

PC failed to take advantage of five power-play opportunities, while outshooting its opponent 37-27. Freshman goalie Amy Quinlan played all 60 minutes for PC and made 18 saves. St. Lawrence goalkeeper Rachel Barrie made 34 saves in 60 minutes.

The Friars (15-9-3, 7-7-3) return to Schneider Arena tomorrow (Sunday, February 11, 2001) to take on Cornell in conference play.
