PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Abdul Mills led all scorers with 17 points Saturday night to lead Providence to its third straight win, 68-54 over Columbia.
Marcus Douthit added 13 points and a game-high eight rebounds and Maris Laksa also had 13 for the Friars (4-1).
Craig Austin had 12 and Treg Duerksen added 10 for the Lions (2-2).
The Friars, who never trailed, applied full-court pressure in the first half to race to a 38-19 halftime lead. Providence forced the Lions into 15 first-half turnovers and held them to 22 percent shooting from the field. Columbia stayed as close as it did by going 11-for-11 from the line in the half.
Duerksen scored six points in the first six minutes of the second half as the Lions cut the Providence lead to 48-32. But the Friars increased the lead to 55-34 during the next two minutes, sparked by Douthit with four points.
Providence hit 7 of 15 3-pointers, while Columbia was just 1 for 15 from beyond the arc.
